High School Volunteer Opportunities

Colorado faces a growing and disturbing gap between the capabilities of the emerging workforce and the requirements of Colorado's employers. According to a report by the Colorado Career Council, by 2025, Colorado will face a shortage of nearly 700,000 workers to meet the demands of employers. The majority of this gap will be due to the lack of either associate or bachelor's degrees. To counteract this trend, the Career Council notes that Colorado needs more traditional students enrolling in and completing post-secondary education, as well as an increasing number of adult workers returning for post-secondary education.

A key factor in moving more students down this path lies in providing better career awareness and preparation services. That's how you can help! High schools across the state need your time and talents in a variety of ways. Each of these volunteer opportunities will improve student preparedness for the workforce and build a connection to your community.

Aside from providing job shadowing and work-based learning opportunities, schools will typically be looking for employers to help with tasks like conducting mock interviews, speaking to groups about your industry, reviewing students' resumés, etc.
